I believe that toys can inspire children's curiosity and can encourage learning through play. All of the products that I source to sell at My Chickadee are fair trade or made from sustainable materials produced by ethically and socially responsible manufacturers.
This is my story...
I never thought being a mum would change me – words that I’ve uttered so many times since my daughter was born in June 2021. I assumed that I would have a baby, have 6 months maternity leave, put her in nursey and go back to my job as a commercial director like nothing had happened! Oh how I was so wrong...
After returning to work in January 2022 I soon realised that I didn’t fit my role anymore and the guilt of having to put my daughter in nursery everyday started to wear me down.

I sat looking at all her toys one night thinking about all the non-recyclable plastic toys she had. We couldn’t really sell or pass them on as they’d been nibbled by the dog (and my daughter) and most had been flung across the floor and were scratched or broken. I got to thinking – where will all these end up when I have purge before Christmas - probably landfill.

After doing some research I found that 8.5 million new or perfectly good toys are thrown away every year in the UK a lot of which are made from non renewable petrochemicals.

That’s when My Chickadee was born.
